Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters Announced for Nintendo Switch at Nintendo Direct

Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially announced Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters for Nintendo Switch, unveiling the highly anticipated sequel during the latest Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase.

Developed by Tamsoft, this new installment in the beloved soccer series draws from the iconic Captain Tsubasa anime and manga, bringing its signature action-packed style back to Nintendo's popular platform.

The game is slated for a global release, both at retail and digitally via the Nintendo eShop in 2026. Building on the foundation of the original, Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters promises the most expansive experience yet for fans and newcomers alike.

Players can create and customize their own character before joining series hero Tsubasa Ozora on his journey to soccer glory.

The campaign follows a brand-new narrative in which players forge friendships, challenge formidable rivals, and vie to reclaim the coveted trophy.

According to Bandai Namco, this sequel will be "the biggest Captain Tsubasa game yet," offering an impressive roster of 22 national teams and over 110 playable characters from the franchise’s rich history.

With more than 150 new special moves, the game aims to raise the bar for anime-inspired sports titles, with meticulously animated cutscenes highlighting each show-stopping play.

Iconic teams from the manga join newly created squads, bringing together fan-favorite and original characters like never before. The gameplay itself has been significantly overhauled to deliver what the publisher describes as "Super Action Soccer." Players can now chain together dramatic, superhuman plays to create unforgettable matches and action-packed moments on the pitch.

Enhanced mechanics introduce fresh tactics, particularly around blocking goal shots, which now feature interactive sequences pitting goalkeeper against shooter.

This dynamic system lets fans fully experience and counter the spectacular super shots and blocks that define the Captain Tsubasa series. Longtime fans will also appreciate the return of composer Tadayoshi Makino, who previously scored Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions.

For World Fighters, Makino contributes more than 90 new background tracks, promising an energetic and immersive aural experience. Key features highlighted by Bandai Namco include: - A larger soccer world with 22 national teams and more than 110 playable characters - Over 150 cutscenes and new special skill animations - Enhanced gameplay with new super moves for passing, dribbling, tackling, and blocking - Deepened tactical options for blocking and goalkeeping, delivering more player control and excitement Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters marks another significant milestone for Tamsoft and Bandai Namco Entertainment, building on the franchise’s successful track record on Nintendo platforms.

The title will be available worldwide for Nintendo Switch via both physical and digital release on the Nintendo eShop in 2026.
