Shueisha Games and iMel Inc. have confirmed that Seasons of Books and Keys, an adaptation of Honobu Yonezawa’s bestselling mystery novel, is in development for Nintendo Switch and will launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop worldwide in Winter 2026.

The project adapts Yonezawa’s source material into an illustrated, voice‑acted narrative experience that aims to bridge reading and dramatic presentation.

Built around two male high school library committee members, the game places players in the role of Jiro Horikawa.

Players are asked to receive and evaluate the small, seemingly mundane mysteries that arrive at the library — cases that include a stubborn safe that refuses to open, the theft of exam questions, the last book read by an upperclassman who died by suicide, and a concealed secret carried by the protagonist’s own partner.

As these episodic requests accumulate, the narrative gradually exposes deeper secrets and fractures in relationships.

The developers have framed the title as a drama‑oriented narrative adventure designed to evoke the emotional cadence of a television drama while preserving the introspective quality of reading.

In practical terms, Seasons of Books and Keys will present its story through richly coloured illustrations and full voice acting, marrying static visual storytelling with audio performance to heighten atmosphere and character work.

Notably, the release will include a new, original episode titled "Used Kitan," written by Honobu Yonezawa specifically for the game.

That addition gives players exclusive material beyond the novel’s original chapters and directly involves the author in the project’s narrative expansion.

The announcement and details were originally reported by Alex Seedhouse, an experienced Nintendo reporter who has covered the publisher and platform across multiple console generations.

With its Winter 2026 digital release date on the Nintendo eShop, Seasons of Books and Keys joins a growing slate of narrative and visual novel–style titles on Nintendo Switch, offering both fans of the novel and narrative game players a compact, drama‑led mystery experience to anticipate.
