Shantae Swimsuit Special #1 Announced by UDON Entertainment: Release Date and Merchandise Details

UDON Entertainment, a leader in video game-inspired comics and merchandise, has officially announced the release of Shantae Swimsuit Special #1.

This all-new comic book is set to debut in September 2024 and marks the first time the beloved half-genie, Shantae, receives a dedicated swimsuit-themed issue.

The announcement was made via UDON Entertainment’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on June 24, 2024, signaling an exciting addition to the publisher’s expanding roster of video game adaptations, which also includes the successful Street Fighter Masters and the upcoming Final Fight limited series. Shantae, created by WayForward Technologies, is a well-known character among Nintendo Switch gamers and has become an icon since her debut on the Game Boy Color in 2002.

The Shantae series is celebrated for its vibrant art style, engaging platforming mechanics, and memorable cast of characters, including Rottytops, Sky, Risky Boots, and Nega-Shantae—all of whom will appear alongside the belly-dancing protagonist in this special issue set on the beaches of Sequin Land. According to UDON’s official announcement, Shantae Swimsuit Special #1 will feature an array of colorful pin-up artwork, capturing the playful and energetic spirit that has endeared the franchise to fans.

The issue will also contain an exclusive eight-page manga story, further expanding the adventures of Shantae and her friends.

The artistic direction of the comic is said to highlight the flirtatious yet fun nature of the characters, with vibrant visuals designed to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers. In addition to the comic book release, UDON Entertainment is launching a line of collectible merchandise to complement Shantae Swimsuit Special #1.
