Ubisoft Restructures Swedish Studios Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm Amid Cost-Cutting Efforts

Ubisoft Implements Restructuring at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm: 55 Roles Impacted Ubisoft, one of the world’s leading game publishers, has announced significant organizational changes at its Swedish studios, Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm.

This move comes just one week after the closure of Ubisoft Halifax, the company’s mobile-focused studio, further underscoring Ubisoft’s ongoing efforts to optimize its global operations and manage costs across its network. According to a recent report from IGN, Ubisoft expects approximately 55 jobs to be affected across the Malmö and Stockholm locations following the conclusion of a voluntary leave program initiated in fall 2025.

While that program aimed to reduce workforce size organically, it did not fully achieve its objectives, prompting this targeted restructuring. Massive Entertainment, acclaimed for its work on The Division franchise, and Ubisoft Stockholm are both highly regarded within the industry.

Notably, Ubisoft Stockholm has been developing an unannounced intellectual property and spearheading advancements in cloud computing technology.

Meanwhile, Massive Entertainment is well-known for creating the Snowdrop engine, which powered cutting-edge titles such as the recent Star Wars Outlaws, released for Nintendo Switch 2 last year. In a formal statement, Ubisoft underscored the purpose and scope of the restructure: “Earlier today, all employees in our Swedish studios—Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm—were informed about a proposed organizational restructuring that may impact around 55 positions in Malmö and Stockholm.

This follows the recently completed Voluntary Leave Program, a finalized long-term roadmap, and a comprehensive staffing assessment, providing us clear visibility into the studios’ future needs to ensure sustainable operation.” Ubisoft further clarified that these workforce adjustments are proactive and structural, stating, “These changes are designed to align with future goals and are not a reflection of individual performance or recent project outcomes.

The ongoing direction for both studios remains stable; Massive Entertainment will continue as the global hub for The Division series and drive forward an innovative, as-yet unannounced technology project, while both teams will also collaborate on the development of Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect.” The company emphasized that support and transparency are priorities throughout the transition: “Impacted team members are being directly informed, and we are committed to providing support and guidance in accordance with local regulations.” Despite these cuts, Ubisoft has reaffirmed its dedication to The Division franchise and the broader goals of both studios.

Development on The Division remains a top priority, and the Malmö-based Massive Entertainment is expected to continue its crucial role within Ubisoft’s global operations—especially in technological advancements relevant to future Nintendo Switch platforms and other next-gen gaming devices. Ubisoft’s latest restructuring move follows a series of industry adjustments as developers and publishers navigate an evolving market landscape, with a continued focus on efficiency, technical leadership, and support for flagship franchises like The Division.
