The studio says the update is intended to align the first chapter with later entries in the Trails series while keeping the original experience intact for players who began with this title.
What the Legacy Patch changes
- Terminology alignment: Key English terms and UI text have been updated to match terminology used in later Trails titles.
Major examples include renaming Arts Defense to Shield (now shown as Shield) and changing certain quartz type names such as replacing Shield-Type with Guard-Type to avoid confusion with the quartz Shield.
- Location renames: The four Tetracyclic Towers have been adjusted to the legacy names used in later entries.
The towers are now Esmelas Tower, Amberl Tower, Carnelia Tower and Sapphirl Tower.
- Item and creature names: Several fish and item names were updated for consistency.
For example, Orosho is now Tiger Rockfish and Samona is now Salmon.
Additional legacy adjustments include small changes such as Hundred Day War to Hundred Days War and Orbal golem to Archaism.
- Pronunciation updates: English voice pronunciations were revised for series continuity.
Affected pronunciations include Liberl, Calvard, Zin, Loewe, Hamel, Auslese and Zemuria.
The company noted most affected voice lines were updated, though a small number could not be revised.
- Localization polish: French and German text received accuracy and consistency fixes.
- Bug fixes and stability: The patch addresses crashes caused by insufficient memory and other operation-specific crashes, fixes miscellaneous text errors and resolves additional minor bugs.
Nihon Falcom framed the patch as a continuity-focused effort, explaining that they prioritized English terminology and pronunciations based on their impact on series continuity and accessibility.
The studio emphasized preserving the experience for players who started the series with Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter while making the title a clearer entry point into the broader Trails universe.
Why it matters for players and Switch owners
For players on platforms including Nintendo Switch and other storefronts such as the eShop, the Legacy Patch reduces confusion for newcomers moving between entries in the franchise and ensures that key names and pronunciations match those used in future releases.
With Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter approaching in September, these adjustments aim to smooth the narrative and localization transition across the series.
