Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Remake Announced for Nintendo Switch: Release Date, Features, and Collector's Edition

GungHo Online Entertainment and veteran RPG developer Nihon Falcom have officially unveiled a new trailer for The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, signaling the beloved JRPG’s imminent arrival on Nintendo Switch.

The remake revives the classic title that launched the enduring Trails series, introducing it to a fresh generation of Nintendo fans with modern enhancements. Originally released on PC, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter later found its way to PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Now, the adventure receives a full reimagining for current hardware, debuting on Nintendo Switch with a global launch scheduled for 19 September 2025.

Players can look forward to digital availability via the Nintendo eShop and retail editions worldwide. This definitive edition brings a host of improvements and new content.

Nihon Falcom and GungHo Online Entertainment have confirmed the remake will feature enhanced HD visuals, ensuring the Liberl Kingdom is rendered in crisp, vivid detail.

Players will also experience refined gameplay mechanics, including the choice between traditional turn-based combat and a new real-time action mode, accommodating both series veterans and newcomers. Localization takes center stage in this remake, offering full English, German, and French text for the first time.

Additionally, all main characters receive newly-recorded English and Japanese voiceovers, lending authenticity and depth to the story’s central duo, Estelle Bright and her adoptive brother Joshua.

Their journey from junior bracers to the heart of a conspiracy within the Liberl Kingdom remains a key highlight.

The game’s intricate world shifts and responds to player progression, with each NPC reflecting the ever-evolving narrative. In an official publisher statement, GungHo Online emphasized that Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter aims to capture both the nostalgia of longtime RPG fans and the expectations of modern audiences.

They underlined that every interaction and environment has been tailored to provide a uniquely personalized experience as players unravel the secrets of Liberl. Supporting the launch, Limited Run Games is producing an exclusive Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Collector’s Edition for enthusiasts and collectors, while a standard physical edition will be distributed via Amazon in North America ($59.99) and through Clear River Games in Europe (€59.99). With its enriched visuals, expanded localization, flexible battle system, and a Collector’s Edition for devoted fans, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is poised to be a milestone JRPG release for the Nintendo Switch in 2025.
