On February 4, 2017, Toys R Us partnered with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo to present an exclusive Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) event, capturing the attention of series enthusiasts nationwide.
The 'Pokémon Trade & Collect' event, scheduled from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM local time, aimed to celebrate the then-recent release of the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, as well as to promote continued engagement with the Pokémon TCG Sun & Moon expansion.
Attendees at select Toys R Us locations were treated to a complimentary, limited-edition Cosmog Foil card—a collectible item available only at this event.
Additionally, participants received a Pokémon trading card game collectors album, enhancing their ability to organize and showcase cards from the popular and expanding Sun & Moon series.
Quantities of both the exclusive Cosmog card and collectors album were strictly limited and made available on a first-come, first-served basis.
In a statement reflecting the event's family-friendly approach, Toys R Us spokespersons emphasized their commitment to creating memorable experiences for fans of all ages.
Store representatives highlighted that the event served as an opportunity for players to trade cards, build collections, and engage with others in the thriving Pokémon community.
"We are thrilled to bring Pokémon fans together to share their passion, enjoy exclusive items, and discover the latest in the Pokémon Trading Card Game," Toys R Us noted in their official event materials.
The Pokémon Trade & Collect event was not limited to TCG enthusiasts.
Nintendo 3DS demo stations were set up in participating stores, allowing guests to try out Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon firsthand.
Both titles, which debuted worldwide in November 2016, went on to achieve significant milestones, with Pokémon Sun and Moon selling over 16 million copies combined by the end of their release year—establishing them among the best-selling games on the Nintendo 3DS platform.
To further engage young trainers and families, Toys R Us also offered a Pokémon-themed coloring activity at each event location, ensuring attendees of all ages could take part in the fun.
The carefully curated list of participating stores spanned the United States, covering major cities and regional centers to maximize accessibility for fans nationwide.
The event underscored the effective partnership between Toys R Us, The Pokémon Company, and Nintendo, reinforcing their shared legacy of supporting the trading card community while spotlighting the ongoing popularity of Pokémon products both on the tabletop and Nintendo 3DS hardware.
For those fortunate enough to attend, the day offered not only exclusive collectibles but also lasting memories and valuable connections within the Pokémon fanbase.
