Refint/Games, in collaboration with Bar Holographic Otaku, has officially announced that Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia will debut on Nintendo Switch with a confirmed release date of July 3, 2025.
Featuring a blend of retro-inspired dungeon crawling and fan-favorite Touhou Project characters, this title aims to captivate both longtime Touhou enthusiasts and newcomers when it launches on the Nintendo eShop for $14.99.
Originally launched on PC in 2023, Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia is a first-person dungeon role-playing game (dungeon RPG) set within the vibrant and mysterious world of Gensokyo.
Players assume the role of Sumireko Usami, an unconventional high-schooler whose remarkable talent allows her to explore Gensokyo through her dreams.
In this new Nintendo Switch version, players will experience classic dungeon exploration and strategic, turn-based combat while navigating intricate mazes and confronting familiar foes.
The narrative places Sumireko at the center of a peculiar incident in Gensokyo.
Clones known as Sleepers—each modeled after iconic Touhou Project characters—are causing chaos throughout the land.
Uniquely equipped with a recently purchased smartphone, Sumireko can actively capture these Sleepers by outmaneuvering them in dynamic Danmaku encounters, a hallmark of the Touhou series.
Defeated Sleepers can join the player's party or be converted into valuable in-game items.
The game also introduces a fusion mechanic, allowing players to combine multiple Sleepers to create entirely new allies or resources, adding another layer of strategy to party management.
An important gameplay element is the management of Sumireko’s smartphone battery.
Each additional Sleeper added to the party increases battery consumption, and if the device runs out of charge, the player will lose access to both their collection of Sleepers and the in-game map.
This mechanic encourages careful exploration and resource planning—key features for fans of challenging dungeon crawlers.
Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia celebrates the vast character roster and lore of the Touhou Project, ensuring nearly every familiar face is not only represented but also playable.
The port to Nintendo Switch aims to preserve the game’s old-school aesthetics and gameplay sensibilities, while providing portable, on-the-go RPG action to a new audience.
With a competitive $14.99 price point and its upcoming Nintendo Switch launch, Refint/Games and Bar Holographic Otaku are set to expand the reach of this beloved indie title.
Players can look forward to delving deep into Gensokyo’s dreamlike corridors and recruiting a dream team of Touhou characters when the game becomes available via the Nintendo eShop on July 3, 2025.
