The sequel to the quirky 3DS life-simulator franchise launched in early April 2026 and quickly became a commercial standout for the platform, driven by strong initial demand and broad player engagement.
Nintendo’s report breaks the performance down by period and region.
The company recorded 7.94 million units sold through during the first quarter ending June 30, 2026, and reported that the title had surpassed eight million copies sold as of August 5, 2026.
That initial quarter figure reflects the combined total across all markets for the game's opening three months on sale.
Regionally, Nintendo lists 2.55 million units sold in Japan and 5.39 million units in other regions during the quarter, figures that together match the 7.94 million quarter total reported by the company.
Nintendo also indicated that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is now the best-selling entry in the Tomodachi Life series, outperforming earlier releases for the franchise.
The company characterized the game's audience as broad and diverse; in Nintendo’s words, the title is being enjoyed by people of all ages and genders.
That inclusive appeal, coupled with the series’ established brand and the Switch’s install base, helped drive the title’s rapid early sales.
Tomodachi Life began as a 3DS release and the franchise’s transition to Nintendo Switch with Living the Dream marks a notable platform evolution for the series.
The game is available on Nintendo Switch and through the Nintendo eShop, which remains a central storefront for digital sales and distribution on Nintendo’s current hardware.
Nintendo disclosed these figures as part of wider financial results for the quarter, and the numbers underline the Switch’s continued role in elevating niche or cult-favorite concepts to mainstream commercial success.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream’s performance will be a key data point in Nintendo’s broader content strategy assessments for FY2026.
