Description

Biomutant, the open-world action RPG developed by Experiment 101 and published by THQ Nordic, has seen a remarkable debut on the Nintendo Switch, defying both industry expectations and hardware limitations.

Originally released for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in 2021, Biomutant made its surprise arrival on Nintendo’s portable platform in May 2024, joining the extensive library available through the Nintendo eShop.

While the Switch version does undergo technical compromises to accommodate the hardware’s aging architecture, the core experience remains intact, providing Switch players the opportunity to explore Biomutant’s post-apocalyptic world and dynamic combat system. Shortly after launch, retail charts and digital storefront rankings began highlighting the strong performance of Biomutant on the Nintendo Switch.

In an interview with the Japanese branch of THQ Nordic, a company representative provided further insight into the title’s early success.

The spokesperson noted that Biomutant was quickly mentioned among top sellers at retailers, both in packaged and digital formats.

"Sales have exceeded our initial projections for the Nintendo Switch release," the representative said.

"While I cannot disclose specific figures, both the physical and downloadable editions are outperforming expectations." This positive commercial response is particularly noteworthy considering the extended development and porting process that was required to adapt Biomutant to the Switch’s unique hardware.

The representative acknowledged the porting delays, which presented technical challenges.

However, he emphasized that these efforts were ultimately worthwhile, given the game’s ability to connect with new audiences on the platform.

"The speed at which the Nintendo Switch version is selling has surprised us, and it demonstrates that there is significant demand for distinctive action RPGs among Switch users," the official added. Since the Switch port’s release, both fans and industry analysts have observed that THQ Nordic’s decision to bring Biomutant to Nintendo’s flagship console has paid off handsomely.

The strong sales performance is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Switch and the appetite for diverse game experiences among its global user base.

With new players discovering the game through the Nintendo eShop and retail channels, Biomutant’s momentum on the Nintendo Switch is expected to continue, further cementing its status as a standout multiplatform title in THQ Nordic’s catalog.
