Despite early triumphs, Commodore's journey was cut short in the mid-1990s due to strategic missteps, intensifying PC competition, and the global rise of powerful Japanese home consoles.

Notable product misfires, such as the CDTV and Amiga CD32, struggled to gain traction, and Commodore ultimately ceased operations in 1994. Today, the Commodore legacy continues to resonate with retro gaming enthusiasts worldwide.

Christian Simpson, the creative force behind the Retro Recipes YouTube channel, has announced an ambitious movement to revive this storied brand.

Working alongside a group of dedicated fans, Simpson is actively negotiating with the current Dutch rights holders of the Commodore name to secure ownership and relaunch the brand with renewed vision. "It truly feels like this is my life’s calling," Simpson told the Retro Recipes audience, encapsulating his passion and commitment to the project.

According to Simpson, the revival will include the introduction of new Commodore products and a charitable initiative named 'Commodore Care.' This program aims to bring the brand’s enduring sense of play and innovation to underprivileged children, spreading what Simpson refers to as a “spark of joy.” Partnering with Caudwell Children in the UK, plans are also moving forward to open a dedicated 'Commodore arcade' within the organization’s headquarters, offering a space for young people to experience classic and modern retro gaming. While this endeavor signals exciting developments for Commodore aficionados, the path has not been straightforward.

Since Commodore’s 1994 bankruptcy, the brand has changed hands multiple times—from Escom to Gateway 2000, then Tulip, and now to its current Dutch custodians—often with little continuity or success in reestablishing its place in the market.

Moreover, the Amiga trademark diverged under separate ownership and is not presently included in Simpson’s Commodore proposal, though possibilities for collaboration remain if a licensing agreement can be secured. The Commodore revival spearheaded by Christian Simpson and Retro Recipes showcases a unique blend of reverence for computing history and a modern community-first approach.
