G’AIM’E Light Gun Surpasses Kickstarter Goal: Bringing Classic Namco Shooters to Modern TVs
As technology marches ever forward, many genres beloved by retro fans have struggled to keep up—none more so than classic arcade light gun games.
Responding to this gap, Japanese peripheral innovator Tassei Denki has introduced the G’AIM’E light gun, a hardware solution engineered to restore the arcade shooter experience to current-generation TV screens.
The G’AIM’E is drawing significant attention for its unique blend of proprietary high-resolution camera technology and AI integration, qualities that have already earned backing from industry giant Bandai Namco.
Traditionally, light gun peripherals required CRT televisions due to their distinct refresh patterns and scanlines, making them largely incompatible with flat-screen displays.
Recognizing this growing problem for retro game enthusiasts, Tassei Denki developed a solution that leverages an advanced camera system and artificial intelligence to precisely track user input.
According to the developer, this bespoke technology enables accurate, lag-free performance reminiscent of arcade-era gameplay.
Official Bandai Namco Licensing, Classic Titles Bundled
The momentum behind the G’AIM’E light gun grew rapidly after Tassei Denki announced it had secured official licensing from Bandai Namco.
As part of the launch, the peripheral is bundled with a digital copy of the iconic light gun shooter Time Crisis.
Premium packages further enhance the experience by including additional Namco arcade classics such as Point Blank, Steel Gunner, and Steel Gunner 2.
Select versions will also offer optional foot pedals to replicate the full arcade setup.
On the crowdfunding front, the G’AIM’E has resonated with retro gaming fans and collectors.
Launched on Kickstarter with a funding goal of ¥7,000,000 (approximately £35,000 / $48,000), the campaign has already gathered over ¥59,000,000 (about £300,000 / $409,000) with nearly 58 days still to go.
This surge in support highlights the enthusiastic demand for authentic, nostalgia-driven gaming experiences on modern platforms like Nintendo Switch and other contemporary hardware.
Market Impact and Comparisons
While there are other contenders in the market for bringing light gun gaming to flatscreen TVs—such as the Sinden gun, which has been licensed for use with the modular Polymega system—G’AIM’E sets itself apart with the official involvement of Bandai Namco and a directly bundled lineup of acclaimed arcade titles.
Meanwhile, some pre-orders for other solutions, like the Sinden gun for Polymega, remain unfulfilled after more than a year of anticipation, adding further appeal to Tassei Denki’s offering for customers seeking prompt, reliable access to their favorite retro shooters.
With its exceeding crowdfunding success and authoritative partnerships, the G’AIM’E light gun project stands poised to lead a new wave of retro game revival, letting classic titles like Time Crisis reach both veteran fans and a new generation of players on today’s flat-screen TVs.
