In a recent developer interview, Nintendo has shared the first official screenshot of the sticker selection screen for Mario Kart World, bringing exciting news for enthusiasts of this beloved racing franchise.
As the next major entry in the series on Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart World promises a wealth of personalized features—including a collectible sticker system—designed to capture players’ imaginations on and off the racetrack.
The screenshot, released during the interview, showcases part of the game’s sticker selection interface, confirming at least 32 unique stickers available for players to unlock and use.
While Nintendo has not disclosed the final count of collectible stickers in Mario Kart World, the preview suggests that this feature will offer substantial depth, with far more than the minimum 32 confirmed so far.
Stickers play a key role in customization, allowing racers to personalize their karts for use in both traditional races and the expanded Free Roam mode.
Stickers are earned across several activities, including participating in standard races, exploring the game world in Free Roam, and completing specific in-game missions.
Once unlocked, these collectible stickers enable players to decorate their vehicles, adding a new level of individuality to the Mario Kart World experience.
This approach to customization is in line with recent trends highlighted by Nintendo in their Nintendo Direct presentations, encouraging a more personal and engaging kart-building process.
In the interview, lead designer Ishikawa reflected on the ambitious development process, stating, "At the outset, I wondered if it was possible to realize such an expansive vision for Mario Kart World.
The challenge ultimately became a source of excitement, inspiring our team to create a multitude of distinct features with careful attention to every detail." Ishikawa further explained that previous Mario Kart entries featured race courses that were isolated experiences, viewed individually.
With Mario Kart World, environments are now influenced dynamically by factors such as the angle of view, time of day, and selected game mode, deepening the immersion for players.
"Every element, down to individual roadside signs, was crafted with relationships to other parts of the world in mind," Ishikawa added.
"We encourage players to explore during Free Roam and discover new aspects of the world, whether taking a break between races or hunting for hidden details.
Many road sign designs have even been made available as collectible stickers, so players can enjoy equipping their favorites throughout all modes."
Mario Kart World is poised to set new standards for creative expression within the series.
With its robust sticker collection system, Nintendo is offering long-time fans and new racers alike the tools to fully customize their experience on Nintendo Switch.
Stay tuned for updates and further coverage as more features and details are unveiled leading up to launch on the Nintendo eShop.
