The Battle of Olympus Steam Remake: Original Creators Rebuild 1988 NES Classic

The original 1988 NES action-adventure The Battle of Olympus is receiving a handcrafted remake on Steam, developed by the title’s original creators under the reformed studio name INFINITY Co.,Ltd.

Designed and programmed by Yukio Horimoto with story and graphics by Reiko Oshida, the game later saw a port to the Game Boy and has remained notable among retro-action fans for its Greek-mythology setting and old-school challenge.

In a past interview with journalist Jeremy Parish, Horimoto described how the project began as a personal collaboration: he and Oshida met while working on their first game, fell in love, and spent a long time shaping the concept together.

Their shared interest in Greek myths directly informed the game’s narrative and aesthetic, and Horimoto said the pair’s mood and creative partnership influenced the final design.

Horimoto also cited Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda as a direct technical influence.

He explained that Zelda, and particularly elements from Zelda II such as the jumping and walking mechanics, informed Battle of Olympus’s movement and combat systems.

According to Horimoto, the player’s attacking, ducking and jumping motions drew inspiration from those Zelda-era mechanics as he sought to build a scrolling platform experience in a similar vein.

For the Steam remake, Horimoto and Oshida have reassembled INFINITY Co.,Ltd. to personally reconstruct the title for modern PCs.

The game’s Steam page states that the original development duo are rebuilding the code, redrawing the pixel art, and refining the experience to preserve the spirit, atmosphere and challenge of the original while updating it for contemporary players.

The project is available now in Early Access on Steam, giving players the opportunity to support ongoing development and experience the remake as it evolves.

This remake marks a rare instance of original NES-era creators returning to their work to oversee a faithful modernization.

Fans of the original NES release and players interested in retro-inspired action-adventure titles can find the project on Steam’s storefront and follow the developers’ updates through the game’s Early Access page.
