Nintendo has unveiled the official box art and new details for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on Nintendo Switch 2, confirming a November 5, 2026 release date.
The announcement, released as part of the series’ 40th anniversary presentation, highlights special physical packaging available while supplies last and a suite of modernized systems built around the classic 1998 adventure.
Nintendo describes the project as a faithful reimagining of the original title with updated presentation and gameplay: the remake features reimagined visuals, a refreshed soundtrack and modernised gameplay tuned for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
The company also emphasized new presentation elements, including expanded dialogue and fully voiced cutscenes to bring characters and story moments to life for a contemporary audience.
Central to the remake’s narrative remains the Triforce — a trio of golden triangles representing wisdom, power and courage — and Link’s time-spanning quest across two eras of Hyrule.
Hyrule Field will serve as a hub connecting towns, a volcano, a lake, a desert and other regions familiar to long-time fans.
Nintendo notes that in-game time advances continuously, meaning new events can appear after nightfall.
Gameplay updates include a new dash ability for covering long distances on foot, a context-sensitive jump to clear obstacles, and the option to befriend a steed for mounted travel.
Inventory and combat have been modernised so players can swap weapons and items on the fly, and certain items will be available only in specific eras of the storyline.
The remake also integrates motion aiming for tools like slingshots and bows, and leverages the Nintendo Switch 2’s built-in microphone: players can play ocarina songs using button controls or by humming into the console’s mic.
Nintendo points out that these melodies remain pivotal to progression, enabling actions such as changing day to night and unlocking new paths.
Other features highlighted by Nintendo include the Threads of Time system, which provides story recaps, current objectives and a visual tapestry chronicling Link’s journey, plus redesigned dungeon puzzles and environmental challenges that rely on both new and classic items.
