Nintendo Unveils Lead Actors for Live-Action The Legend of Zelda Movie: Release Date, Cast, and Production Details

Nintendo has officially announced the leading cast members and key production details for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.

The upcoming film aims to bring the beloved Nintendo franchise to life on the big screen, offering fans a new way to experience the timeless tale of Hyrule, Link, and Princess Zelda. Bo Bragason will portray Princess Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has been chosen to take on the role of Link.

The casting was confirmed by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the visionary creator behind the original game series.

In a recent social media update, Miyamoto stated that he is excited to see both actors bring these iconic characters to life, sharing his enthusiasm for their performances in this momentous project. Nintendo has also revealed the global release date for The Legend of Zelda live-action movie: the film is slated to debut in theaters worldwide on May 7, 2027.

This announcement ends months of speculation following Nintendo’s initial revelation of the project in November 2023 and sets the stage for a highly anticipated cinematic event among both gaming and film audiences. Production of the film is being overseen by two industry heavyweights: Shigeru Miyamoto himself, along with Avi Arad, chairman of Arad Productions.

Arad brings significant expertise in adapting popular entertainment properties for the big screen, having produced major films such as Ghost in the Shell, Venom, Uncharted, Morbius, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Wes Ball, acclaimed for his work on the Maze Runner film series, will serve as the director, ensuring a dynamic and visually engaging adaptation faithful to The Legend of Zelda’s legacy. Financial backing for the movie comes from both Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with Nintendo providing more than 50% of the funding.

Sony Pictures Entertainment is set to handle the film’s theatrical distribution worldwide, ensuring broad accessibility for fans around the globe.

The collaboration between these entertainment giants demonstrates Nintendo’s commitment to expanding its celebrated intellectual properties beyond the Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
