Nintendo used its Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct to lay out a multi-year celebration of the franchise and to debut a remade version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The presentation, led in part by series producer Eiji Aonuma, detailed release timing, new hardware and merchandise, ZELDA NOTES app features, live events and partner products tied to the 40th anniversary.
The headline announcement: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is scheduled to launch on Nov. 5, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2.
Aonuma and Nintendo described the release as a rebuilt version of Link's 1998 milestone, featuring fully overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, reworked camera and movement controls, improved performance, faster load times and tighter input responsiveness.
Nintendo also confirmed a special first print run of the physical edition with textured foil cover art while supplies last.
Hardware and accessories tied to the anniversary arrive in late 2026.
The Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition system, anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller variants, and a Switch 2 carrying case with a Triforce motif are due Oct. 29, 2026.
Nintendo also showed two new ocarinas coming later this year: a playable acoustic ocarina and a HORI electric ocarina that can play built-in songs at the press of a button.
ZELDA NOTES, the game-specific service accessible via the Nintendo Switch App for compatible smart devices, will add Ocarina of Time support.
New features include a Today’s Record activity log, a Gossip Quest that uses hint images to locate in-game sites, a touchscreen Play Ocarina feature, and an Ocarina of Time quiz with over 2,000 questions.
Amiibo and partner products were also confirmed: the previously announced Mineru’s Construct amiibo for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases Sept. 17, 2026; new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo arrive in 2027 and will unlock in-game retro-style masks.
LEGO and Hasbro adult collectibles tied to Ocarina of Time are slated for spring 2027.
