The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2 — Release Date, Features and 40th Anniversary Plans

In a dedicated Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on Sept. 8, 2026, Nintendo outlined a slate of releases and events centering on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and broader anniversary plans. Series producer Eiji Aonuma presented the first gameplay for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo Switch 2 and confirmed the remade edition will launch on Nov. 5. Nintendo also unveiled anniversary hardware, concert dates, museum programming and licensed collectibles tied to the series’ four-decade milestone. Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2: release and enhancements Nintendo describes the Nov. 5 release as a comprehensive remaster for the Nintendo Switch 2 system. The update includes completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, reworked camera and movement controls, improved performance and faster load times. Series producer Eiji Aonuma showcased gameplay and confirmed these enhancements, saying the 1998 adventure has been reborn with modernized controls and presentation for the Switch 2 era. The first run of physical copies will ship in special packaging with textured foil cover art, available while supplies last. Hardware, accessories and in-game peripherals A week before the game arrives, on Oct. 29, Nintendo will launch the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition system, along with anniversary editions of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller (with and without a display stand) and a carrying case with screen protector featuring Triforce-themed designs. Nintendo also announced two ocarinas arriving later in 2026: a playable model and an electric HORI ocarina that can play notes or entire songs at the press of a button. Players can hum a learned melody into the Nintendo Switch 2’s built-in microphone and see Link perform the tune in-game. ZELDA NOTES, amiibo and digital support The ZELDA NOTES companion features for compatible smart devices will expand to support The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Additions include Today’s Record for play stats, a Gossip Quest that uses hint images to locate in-game areas, Play Ocarina for touchscreen performance and an Ocarina of Time quiz with more than 2,000 questions. New Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are scheduled for 2027; Mineru’s Construct amiibo for Tears of the Kingdom is due Sept. 17. Events, museum programming and media A global Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert series will begin in Tokyo in January 2027, then visit Chicago in February 2027, London in April 2027 and Melbourne in May 2027. The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will offer a special anniversary ticket design beginning Sept. 9, new photo ops from Nov. 5 and will open a Super Family Restaurant in fall 2026 as part of year-long anniversary activities. Nintendo also confirmed an original live-action film, The Legend of Zelda, will open worldwide on April 30, 2027, from Nintendo, Arad Productions Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Tie-ins and retail Nintendo highlighted licensed collectibles including the LEGO The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Link & Epona set (available spring 2027) and the Hasbro Legend of Zelda Electronic Master Sword arriving spring 2027.
