Cho Aniki Collection Launches on Nintendo Switch eShop in the UK and US

Cho Aniki Collection Arrives on Nintendo Switch eShop in UK and US Edia Co., Ltd has officially released the English version of the highly anticipated Cho Aniki Collection for the Nintendo Switch eShop in both the United Kingdom and United States.

This marks the first time the iconic series is being offered to Western audiences on Nintendo's current generation hardware, with a digital release following its Japanese debut on December 12, 2024.

The Cho Aniki Collection is a remaster of the first two games in the unconventional shoot 'em up series—Cho Aniki (originally released on the PC Engine in 1992) and its sequel, Ai Cho Aniki (PC Engine, 1995).

Both titles are celebrated for their bold, surreal visuals and signature camp style.

Developed and published by Edia Co., Ltd, the collection was brought to life thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign held earlier this year on the Japanese platform Makuake.

The campaign raised over ¥11,368,000—more than double its original target of ¥5,000,000. The official announcement was made via the game's social media channels, confirming the collection’s availability across Nintendo eShop stores in both the UK and US.

As of launch, Cho Aniki Collection is priced at £38.69 on the UK eShop and $44.99 for US customers.

Alongside the digital edition, Edia Co., Ltd has also confirmed two physical versions for the Japanese market—both a standard edition and a Special Edition containing an original soundtrack CD, exclusive pin-set, and collectible hologram stickers, available for pre-order on Amazon Japan. In terms of new features, the Nintendo Switch version introduces several enhancements, including a "Sound Mode" for enjoying the games’ unique music, a "Visual Mode" for gallery content, and a convenient rewind function that lets players retry challenging segments.

These quality-of-life additions make the collection accessible for both returning fans and newcomers experiencing the legendary franchise for the first time. Cho Aniki's history stretches back over three decades, originating with Masaya as its publisher, and Extreme Co., Ltd now holding the rights.

Over the years, the series has garnered a cult following in Japan and internationally, renowned for its eccentric character designs—most notably the musclebound Samson and Adon—and its unapologetically outlandish imagery.

Apart from the core PC Engine entries, the franchise has expanded across multiple platforms, including the Super Famicom, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, WonderSwan, PlayStation 2, and even mobile devices. With the Cho Aniki Collection now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop in English, Edia Co., Ltd opens a new chapter for the series, giving fans and curious players worldwide a chance to engage with one of gaming’s most unique and enduring cult hits.
