Bethesda’s multiplatform free-to-play RPG, The Elder Scrolls: Blades, will officially sunset across all platforms—including the Nintendo Switch eShop—by June 30, 2026, marking the end of an era for the ambitious mobile adaptation of the publisher’s iconic franchise.
Launched initially on iOS and Android in April 2019, and later expanding to Nintendo Switch via the eShop in May 2020, The Elder Scrolls: Blades brought dungeon-crawling RPG action to mobile and console audiences alike.
The title, developed and published by Bethesda Softworks, aimed to offer a streamlined Elder Scrolls experience, featuring motion controls on Switch, cross-play, and cross-progression between platforms.
Despite a mixed critical reception, its portability and cross-platform integration attracted a notable player base, and it received multiple updates throughout its operational life.
On the official Nintendo Store page, Bethesda confirmed the game’s permanent closure in a clear statement, noting, “The Elder Scrolls: Blades servers will permanently shut down on June 30, 2026.
From now until June 30, 2026, all items in the store will be available for 1 Gem or 1 Sigil each, so you can enjoy all the content Blades has to offer.
On that date, servers will be shut down and the game will be inaccessible.
Thank you for playing, and we hope you have enjoyed your time in Blades.”
Players on Nintendo Switch—and all platforms—now have just over two years to explore and engage with Blades.
As part of the closure announcement, Bethesda has drastically reduced the in-game item cost, making the store’s offerings accessible for a single Gem or Sigil per item.
This move allows all remaining users to experience the game’s content without additional investment until the final server shutdown.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades’ journey on the Nintendo Switch stands as a testament to Bethesda’s ambition to bring a core franchise to new horizons.
Despite being described by some critics as a significant departure from mainline Elder Scrolls entries, the title’s cross-progression features and motion controls were notable achievements, exemplifying a drive for platform flexibility and accessibility.
As of June 30, 2026, The Elder Scrolls: Blades will no longer be playable, and its removal from the Nintendo eShop and other digital storefronts signals the official end of Bethesda’s mobile and Switch experiment within the Elder Scrolls universe.
Fans are encouraged to enjoy the remaining content and reflect on the unique chapter Blades brought to the Elder Scrolls legacy on Nintendo hardware.
