The developer confirmed the game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 18, 2026, and provided new screenshots alongside detailed system and character notes that expand on the Age of Magic's lore and gameplay systems.
Square Enix frames the Age of Magic as humanity's high point: magical technology drives prosperity, pushes back beast tribes, and underpins society — yet the publisher also notes this golden era contains the seeds of a later decline.
The developer says Weyzn exemplifies that prosperity, a nation of grand, magic-powered architecture that contrasts with the beastman-inhabited Philabieldia familiar to series protagonist Elliot.
Weyzn's prosperity rests on two rival research institutions, Forthewor and Formanit.
Forthewor is described as ruthlessly focused on technological advancement, while Formanit centers its research on improving citizens' lives.
Key characters introduced for the Age of Magic include:
- Fausta (voiced by Sayaka Oohara / Elizabeth Maxwell): a former Forthewor researcher who founded and now heads the Formanit Institute; her methodical approach has earned employee trust.
- Marnie (Sayumi Suzushiro / Suzie Yeung): a Formanit researcher specializing in magic technology and mechanical engineering who conducts field trials with thaumata.
- Hildebrandt (Shō Hayami / Christopher Smith): director of Forthewor, a results-driven researcher celebrated for early breakthroughs.
- Ikarus (Yūya Uchida / Chris Okawa): head of Weyzn nobility, wary of Forthewor's pace and allied with Fausta for counsel.
On systems, Square Enix confirmed seven weapon types are available to Elliot, with strengthened variants that enhance both attack power and special attacks.
Weapons appear across caves and ruins from multiple ages; several powerful items are located off the main path to encourage exploration.
Weapon customization ties into magicite: magicite comes in multiple rarities and grants weapon effects—examples include a lightning mallet magicite that adds bolts to hammer specials, with rarer variants increasing coverage and bolt count.
Magicite has equip cost limits, but rarer pieces reduce that cost to enable deeper customization.
Faie's magic lessons unlock minigames by discovering new fairy magics.
Two examples highlighted are Sprint (a race down a snowy slope with avalanche risk) and Warp (platform-based warp challenges through lava-filled stages).
Clearing lessons and earning high scores rewards records that unlock in-game soundtrack playback via the Music menu.
The new Age of Magic screenshots and systems overview complement earlier coverage of the Age of Reconstruction and give a clearer picture of gameplay progression and customization ahead of the June 18, 2026 Nintendo Switch 2 release.
