The announcement follows the title's PC release on Steam in April 2025 and continues a long-running puzzle series that began in arcades in August 1998.
Background and release history
Tetris The Grand Master first appeared in arcades in August 1998 as a high-skill, action-puzzle take on Tetris aimed at dedicated players.
The series continued with Tetris The Absolute The Grand Master 2 in 2000 and Tetris The Grand Master 3 -Terror Instinct- in 2005.
After a roughly 20-year gap, Arika released the newest entry on Steam in April 2025; the Nintendo Switch edition is the console release of that title.
What to expect on Nintendo Switch
Arika says the Switch version will include the franchise's signature variety of modes.
Players can access classic and marathon modes alongside specialized rulesets such as Asuka mode, where Tetriminoes fall at high speed, and Konoha mode, which uses enlarged blocks.
The Switch port also brings modes introduced in the Steam edition, including SHIRANUI and MASTER variants.
Notable changes from the Steam release
- MASTER mode difficulty has been adjusted for the Switch release, resulting in some title name changes.
- SHIRANUI mode difficulty has been adjusted and some title names have been revised.
- CPU Level 0, which was selectable in SHIRANUI on Steam, has been removed from the Switch version.
- Replay save data is limited to approximately 16 MB, roughly equivalent to several hundred replays depending on mode.
Players can delete saved replays directly from the in-game menu, and the game will display a message when replay storage approaches its limit.
- The Switch version supports only one USB keyboard connection type, whereas the Steam release supported up to six connection types.
