Nintendo has launched a limited-time crossover between Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and its Switch Online battle royale puzzle, Tetris 99.
The themed 53 Cup runs from May 1, 2026 through May 4, 2026 and is available to players on Nintendo Switch who hold an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Tetris 99 remains a Nintendo Switch Online exclusive competitive mode that pits up to 99 players against each other in a last-player-standing Tetris format.
The title was developed in partnership with Arika and has received frequent themed 53 Cup events since its 2019 debut on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
This latest cup ties directly into Nintendo's recent release of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on the platform.
To participate in the 53 Cup players must be signed in with a valid Switch Online subscription.
Players who earn a total of 100 event points during the May 1–4 window will unlock a Tomodachi Life theme for use in Tetris 99.
The theme includes custom art, musical backing, and Tetrimino designs inspired by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
In related updates, Nintendo issued a patch for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream last week addressing several technical issues on the Switch version.
Nintendo also added select tracks from the new Tomodachi Life to its Nintendo Music mobile app and released new icons for Nintendo Switch Online.
Additionally, Nintendo updated Nintendo Music to include the Mario Tennis Aces soundtrack today.
A Nintendo representative summarized the company’s approach to the crossover by noting that the event both celebrates the new Tomodachi Life release and offers Switch Online members a time-limited in-game reward.
The crossover continues Nintendo’s recent pattern of linking system services, music offerings, and online event promotions to support major game releases on the Nintendo Switch.
For players who want the Tomodachi Life Tetris 99 theme, ensure your Nintendo Switch Online membership is active, log in between May 1 and May 4, 2026, and accumulate 100 event points during the 53 Cup.
More information and official notices are available through Nintendo’s channels and the Tetris 99 game interface.
