Bandai Namco has officially announced Tales of Xillia Remastered for the Nintendo Switch, marking the highly anticipated return of the popular JRPG title to a new generation of consoles.
After last week’s leaks hinted at the project’s existence, the company confirmed the remaster during a recent announcement, setting a firm release date of October 31, 2025, for eager fans worldwide.
Originally released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 in 2011 (2013 in Western regions), Tales of Xillia quickly became a standout entry in Bandai Namco’s long-running Tales series, praised for its fast-paced combat, engaging dual-protagonist narrative, and innovative gameplay systems.
With Tales of Xillia Remastered, Nintendo Switch owners will have the opportunity to experience the adventure for the first time on a Nintendo platform, breaking the title’s previous console exclusivity.
Unlike some earlier remasters, Tales of Xillia Remastered will only include the original game, with the sequel, Tales of Xillia 2, not part of this package.
While fans had hoped both entries might be bundled, Bandai Namco made it clear that the remaster will focus solely on the first installment.
In terms of performance, the Switch version will run at 30 frames per second, with 1080p resolution when docked and 720p in handheld mode, as noted on the official Japanese website.
While these technical details mean the remaster is a step down from some other platforms, the Nintendo Switch release is nonetheless a significant milestone, bringing the beloved RPG to a broader audience through the eShop.
Tales of Xillia Remastered comes packed with an array of quality-of-life improvements and bonus content.
According to details provided on the official website, the remaster will feature upgraded visuals and allow immediate access to the Grade Shop, now with an added 50% off items option.
Over 40 original DLC costumes and items will be available from the start.
New features include autosave, an Enemy Encounter toggle that enables players to avoid battles (outside critical events), a retry option for regular encounters, and enhanced subtitle customization during combat.
Other additions include story and item map icons, event auto-skip toggles, revised item menus, batch selection for store upgrades, and the ability to open chests even when not facing them.
Map camera distances can now be adjusted, and key binding has been expanded for both movement and battles.
Detailed item descriptions and improved volume controls round out the new options.
Players can alternate between English and Japanese voice tracks, while the Japanese edition benefits from further textual refinements.
To complement the standard edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition of Tales of Xillia Remastered will be offered, including a digital artbook, soundtrack, special Battle BGM Pack, and a Super Growth Support Herb Set to enhance gameplay.
Pre-ordered editions will come with valuable in-game consumables, such as Life Bottles and healing Gels, providing a head start for adventurers.
In a short statement from Tales series producer Yusuke Tomizawa, he expressed enthusiasm for bringing Tales of Xillia to new audiences, highlighting the community’s enduring support and the team’s commitment to refining the experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
With a wealth of enhancements and accessibility improvements on Nintendo Switch, Tales of Xillia Remastered stands poised to reach both dedicated JRPG enthusiasts and a wider gaming audience when it launches on October 31, 2025.
