Swords & Soldiers, the acclaimed side-scrolling strategy game first introduced on WiiWare in 2009, is set to make its debut on the Nintendo 3DS eShop with an all-new 3D version.
Developed originally by the Netherlands-based studio Ronimo Games, this innovative title was praised for blending real-time strategy mechanics with vibrant visuals and engaging single- and multiplayer modes.
Now, a new audience of handheld gamers will experience the battle thanks to a collaboration with publisher Circle Entertainment.
The announcement signals Circle Entertainment’s growing presence on Nintendo handhelds, as the publisher takes on the task of adapting and distributing Swords & Soldiers 3D.
Speaking to Siliconera, Circle Entertainment CEO Chris Chau explained that the company had approached Ronimo Games several months ago about bringing the game to the 3DS platform.
Chau highlighted Ronimo’s enthusiasm for the 3DS project and noted that Circle is eager to explore new genres and expand its offerings on Nintendo’s digital platforms, citing Swords & Soldiers 3D as an important step in this direction.
According to Chau, Circle Entertainment is in discussions with Ronimo Games to provide additional value for players via a downloadable demo and potentially free downloadable content (DLC).
Chau shared, in a statement summarized for clarity, that the companies are actively considering how they might deliver both a free demo and extra content for Swords & Soldiers 3D, with hopes to make the title available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in the coming months, possibly as early as next spring.
He emphasized that Circle is committed to supporting creative projects that bring new experiences to the 3DS ecosystem.
Swords & Soldiers has enjoyed critical acclaim since its initial release, with reviewers praising its approachable but deep real-time strategy gameplay and distinct art style.
Its transition to the Nintendo 3DS marks the latest in a series of successful adaptations, as the title has previously appeared on platforms ranging from WiiWare to Steam and PlayStation Network.
The upcoming 3DS version is anticipated to leverage the hardware's unique stereoscopic 3D capabilities, delivering both familiar content and new enhancements for long-time fans and newcomers alike.
As the 3DS eShop continues to grow as a hub for digital releases, Swords & Soldiers 3D promises to be a standout strategy offering for Nintendo handheld gamers.
Stay tuned for more updates on Swords & Soldiers 3D’s release date and downloadable content as Circle Entertainment and Ronimo Games finalize details for the highly anticipated arrival on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
