Nintendo Switch Online Adds Wario Land, The Sword of Hope II, Dr. Mario & Puzzle League to Classic Libraries

Nintendo has expanded the retro libraries available through Nintendo Switch Online, adding multiple Game Boy and Game Boy Advance classics to the service. The company announced that Fortified Zone, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and The Sword of Hope II are now available in the Game Boy catalog, and that Expansion Pack subscribers can access Dr. Mario and Puzzle League in the Game Boy Advance catalog. Nintendo also released a new trailer highlighting the additions. The newly added roster continues Nintendo's pattern of rotating classic titles through the Switch Online service. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, originally released for the Game Boy in 1994 and developed by Nintendo R&D1, joins other legacy platformers in the Game Boy collection. Dr. Mario — a puzzle title first released in 1990 — is among the Game Boy Advance additions that Expansion Pack subscribers can now play on Nintendo Switch. In a statement announcing the update, Nintendo framed the change in straightforward terms: starting immediately, standard Nintendo Switch Online members gain access to the new Game Boy entries, while Expansion Pack members receive the Game Boy Advance puzzle titles. The company also made a trailer available to demonstrate the games and their emulation on the Nintendo Switch platform. Nintendo Switch Online launched as a paid online service to provide cloud saves, online play, and a library of classic titles. The Expansion Pack tier, introduced in 2021, extends that library with additional systems and premium retro content, including Game Boy Advance titles and other legacy consoles. For subscribers, the new additions appear directly in the Nintendo Switch Online application on the Nintendo Switch and can be accessed through the service’s retro libraries. As with previous updates, these titles are provided through Nintendo’s curated emulation environment and are tied to the Switch Online subscription model rather than individual eShop purchases. Players interested in these releases can view Nintendo's trailer and access the updated catalogs via the Nintendo Switch Online interface. Nintendo’s ongoing catalog updates keep a rotating set of classic titles available to subscribers, reinforcing the Expansion Pack’s role as the premium option for retro gaming on Nintendo Switch.
