Nintendo has once again demonstrated its dominance in the gaming industry, with the Nintendo Switch 2 achieving remarkable sales success just six months after its initial release.
According to Nintendo’s latest financial report covering the period ending September 30, 2025, the Switch 2 has already sold a staggering 10.36 million units worldwide.
This rapid adoption has exceeded Nintendo’s original expectations, prompting the company to revise its annual sales forecast upward from 15 million to 19 million units for the fiscal year.
In a breakdown of regional sales, the Switch 2’s strongest market remains the Americas, with 3.68 million units sold.
Europe closely follows with 2.40 million, Japan accounts for 2.35 million, and other global regions contributed 1.93 million units to the console’s impressive total.
The robust performance underscores the platform’s broad appeal and enduring popularity among Nintendo fans.
Alongside hardware sales, Nintendo also reported a significant uptick in software sales and forecasts.
Total software sales for the Switch 2 reached 20.62 million units since launch, with an estimated 8.10 million of those bundled with the console.
Mirroring this strong momentum, Nintendo lifted its annual Switch 2 software forecast from 45 million to 48 million units.
Mario Kart World proved to be a key driver, selling an exceptional 9.57 million copies, resulting in an attach rate exceeding 92 percent.
The recently released Donkey Kong Bananza also contributed solidly, with 3.49 million units sold—a strong start for the new title.
The overwhelming popularity of the Nintendo Switch 2 has had a notable impact on the original Switch family of systems, whose sales have declined by 60% year-on-year to 1.89 million units for the period.
Reflecting this downturn, Nintendo has lowered its annual sales projection for the original Switch from 4.5 million to 4 million consoles.
Nevertheless, the continued availability of backwards compatibility features has actually boosted legacy software sales forecasts (from 105 million to 125 million units, an increase of 19%), as existing and new users alike expand their game libraries on both platforms.
Financially, Nintendo’s performance is equally impressive.
The company reported a 25.3% year-on-year increase in gross profit, reaching 398.4 billion yen.
Nintendo’s updated outlook for the fiscal year projects net sales of 2,250.0 billion yen and operating profit of 370.0 billion yen, reflecting the commercial success and ongoing momentum of its latest console generation.
As the Nintendo Switch 2 cements its place in the market, supported by a stream of successful first-party titles and strong global demand, Nintendo’s strategic forecasting and product innovation continue to set the pace for the games industry.
