Nintendo’s Switch 2 has delivered a strong commercial debut in the United States, with Circana reporting 5.9 million units sold in the console’s first twelve months in that market.

The figure complements Nintendo’s own end-of-year financial disclosure that the new hybrid system has reached just under 20 million units in global sales as it enters its second year on the market.

Circana senior director and game industry advisor Mat Piscatella framed the US performance in historical context.

He said the Switch 2 is the second-fastest-selling video game hardware tracked in the United States since Circana’s sales tracking began in 1995, with only the Game Boy Advance surpassing it by selling 6.5 million units in its first year in the US.

Piscatella also noted that the Switch 2 was the best-selling hardware platform in both units and revenue for May and for 2026 year-to-date in the United States, and that three Nintendo-published titles were among the top 10 best-selling games in the US in May.

Software and ecosystem

Nintendo has continued to support the Switch 2 with first-party releases and third-party partnerships.

Recent activity includes the arrival of Star Fox on the platform, and Nintendo has signaled additional first-party lineup additions in the coming months, naming Splatoon Raiders, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time among titles expected to bolster the system’s catalog.

These releases will feature across Nintendo’s distribution channels, including the Nintendo eShop and retail partners, and will be focal points for Nintendo Direct promotions and marketing.

Pricing update

Nintendo also confirmed a regional pricing adjustment for the new hardware.

Effective this September in the United States and Canada, the Switch 2’s suggested retail price will increase by $50, bringing the US price to $499.99 and the Canadian price to $679.99 CAD.

What this means

The Switch 2’s early sales performance underlines strong consumer demand in the US and supports Nintendo’s continued focus on first-party content and platform momentum.

With near-20 million global sales reported by Nintendo and a significant first-year US install base, Switch 2 has established itself as a major current-generation platform for both Nintendo and third-party developers.
