Nintendo Switch 2 Price Drops: EU Retailers Offer Unexpected Discounts on Consoles and Bundles
In a surprising turn for Nintendo hardware enthusiasts, several prominent European retailers have begun reducing prices for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and bundles.
This discount trend arrives contrary to the recent industry-wide increase in hardware and software prices, positioning Nintendo as a notable outlier and providing a welcome relief to consumers allotting budgets for the next generation of handheld-console hybrid gaming.
Leading the charge, Amazon France has adjusted its pricing strategy, now offering the Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle and pre-orders for Pokémon Legends: Z-A at €469—a 6% decrease from the prior price of €499.99.
While the standard Nintendo Switch 2 console has quickly sold out on Amazon France, the French gaming news outlet Nintendo Town reports that the console is listed at €419, reflecting the same reduction.
These price changes have also been observed at French retailer E.Leclerc, where both standalone consoles and bundles reflect the 6% price drop.
Although a €30 to €50 discount may seem modest, this shift is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of rising prices in both hardware and software across the video game industry.
For budget-conscious consumers, these savings can make a meaningful difference, potentially freeing up funds to pick up a launch title or an additional accessory from the Nintendo eShop.
This is not the first time European retailers have moved away from Nintendo’s suggested pricing.
Shortly after the Switch 2’s initial reveal, various French stores began listing titles like Donkey Kong Bananza and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at nearly €60 each, undercutting Nintendo’s advised retail price of €80.
This dynamic suggests that retailers in the EU may be actively seeking a balance between competitive positioning and the growing demand for new Nintendo releases.
As the holiday shopping season approaches, global attention is turning to Black Friday, where analysts anticipate that additional Nintendo Switch 2 discounts may emerge.
Observers note that early price adjustments may set the stage for widespread market activity, as both seasoned Nintendo fans and new customers look to secure their consoles and games ahead of year-end festivities.
Nintendo has not issued an official statement on these price reductions.
Nevertheless, the unexpected discounts underscore the ongoing evolution of hardware pricing strategies in the competitive games market.
Consumers interested in the Switch 2 would be wise to monitor regional retailers and the Nintendo eShop for the latest offers as the console’s European rollout continues.
