Nintendo Releases Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate Version 13.0.4: Switch 2 Update and Patch Notes
Nintendo has rolled out a fresh update for its flagship fighting title, Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate, taking the game to Version 13.0.4 on the Nintendo Switch.
This latest update comes in response to minor issues reported with both offline and online gameplay, especially following the launch of the new Nintendo Switch 2.
As the Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate community continues to thrive, Nintendo’s ongoing support underlines the game's importance in the company’s portfolio since its original release on December 7, 2018.
Version 13.0.4: Enhancements for Switch and Switch 2
Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate Version 13.0.4 was officially released on June 24, 2025, according to Nintendo’s support documentation.
This update targets a range of small but significant fixes that benefit players using both the original Nintendo Switch and the newly released Switch 2.
Highlights from the update include:
- Offline Play: Nintendo has resolved an issue where thumbnail images of Mii Fighters were sometimes not generated correctly during the creation or modification of a Mii Fighter, particularly when saving within the Games & More section.
Accurate thumbnails are essential for player identification and user experience, making this fix especially valuable for fans who invest time customizing their fighters.
- Online Play: Compatibility between Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 users has been improved.
Previously, when a Nintendo Switch 2 player and a Nintendo Switch player joined the same online match, the session could terminate immediately if a Mii Fighter was involved.
This bug, which became especially prominent after the recent system firmware update (Version 20.1.5 released June 18, 2025), has now been addressed.
This ensures a smoother cross-generation online experience as players transition to the new hardware.
Ongoing Commitment to the Super Smash Bros.
Community
Nintendo first acknowledged these issues shortly after the Switch 2’s firmware update and has acted quickly to resolve them.
While one minor Mii Fighter-related issue remains unsolved, the company’s timely patch demonstrates a continued commitment to maintaining Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate as a leading multiplayer experience.
Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate remains one of Nintendo’s best-selling games, boasting over 32 million copies sold worldwide as of 2024.
The game is regularly updated and features a broad roster, rich customization, and competitive online play—attributes that have made it a mainstay of Nintendo Direct presentations and the broader eShop lineup.
