Stray Nintendo Switch 2 Free Upgrade Error: Annapurna Interactive Confirms eShop Discount Issue

Annapurna Interactive has acknowledged an issue affecting the free upgrade for Stray on Nintendo Switch 2, confirming that a backend storefront error prevented eligible owners from receiving the intended 100% discount.

Stray, developed by French studio BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive, originally launched on July 19, 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC, and has since expanded to additional platforms.

The problem concerns players who previously purchased Stray digitally on Nintendo Switch (sometimes referred to as Switch 1).

Annapurna said the Switch 2 version's launch was meant to include a full owners discount for qualifying digital purchasers outside Japan, but the discount was not being applied correctly on the eShop.

In a statement to players, Annapurna Interactive explained that the error stems from the storefront backend and that the company is coordinating with Nintendo to restore the discount.

Paraphrasing the publisher: Annapurna said today’s Switch 2 release should have applied a 100% owners discount for digital Switch 1 owners (excluding Japan), but a backend storefront error has prevented the discount from appearing.

The publisher added it is working with Nintendo to resolve the issue within the next few days and apologized for the inconvenience.

This is a technical storefront issue rather than a change to the upgrade policy.

Annapurna and BlueTwelve Studio have previously worked together on Stray’s multi-platform releases and post-launch support, and the publisher’s message indicates the team is prioritizing a fix.

Players who purchased Stray on Nintendo Switch should find the upgrade applied automatically once the storefront error is resolved; anyone still concerned after the stated window should contact Nintendo eShop support or consult Annapurna’s official channels for updates.

For context, Stray received widespread attention for its art direction and narrative approach at release and has been part of Annapurna Interactive’s catalog of indie and auteur-driven titles.

As the publisher and platform holder work to correct the eShop listing, owners can expect follow-up communications through official Annapurna and Nintendo channels with confirmation that the free upgrade has been restored.
