Whatnot Games has announced that its retro-inspired combat racer Star Racer is coming to Nintendo Switch, though the developer has not provided a release window or distribution details.

Inspired by classic sci-fi racers such as F-Zero on the Super Nintendo, Star Racer blends high-speed racing and vehicular combat in a stylized, retro-inflected package aimed at players who enjoy fast, competitive arcade racing.

According to Whatnot Games’ announcement and accompanying trailer, Star Racer emphasizes speed, aerial maneuvers and offensive tools.

The studio describes the game as a high-octane combat racer that combines boosting, gliding and weapon use across varied courses.

Players must manage a shared energy resource between boosting and healing, and can use an arsenal of attacks to gain an edge on both ground and airborne segments of each track.

The game’s courses are designed to present environmental threats alongside rival drivers.

Track hazards listed in the announcement include icy surfaces, lava-covered routes and bouncy terrain, as well as deployable dangers such as mines and turrets.

In addition to standard races, Whatnot Games highlighted Event Races — rotating challenges that change rules and objectives, ranging from lava survival runs to precision-based “break the targets” trials.

Star Racer will include a built-in Track Editor with online functionality, allowing players to create, upload and browse community-made circuits.

The feature supports sharing custom content and competing on user-created tracks.

Local multiplayer is supported for up to four players in split-screen, enabling couch competitive sessions on Nintendo Switch.

On the audio side, the announcement confirms contributions from composers Mason Lieberman and Jules Conroy, with select tracks featuring veteran composer Grant Kirkhope, known for his work on franchises such as Banjo-Kazooie and Mario + Rabbids.

Whatnot Games released an announcement trailer alongside the Switch reveal.

The developer has not yet announced pricing, a release date, or whether Star Racer will be distributed via the Nintendo eShop; those details are expected in future updates.

For now, Nintendo Switch owners can watch the trailer and follow Whatnot Games for further announcements regarding Star Racer.
