The team also reiterated the game's planned late 2027 launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and reflected on a recent D23 Showcase reveal.
Most detailed worlds, fewer total locations
Nomura told Famitsu that Kingdom Hearts 4 will feature the most detailed worlds the team has ever produced, and that increased fidelity means the game will include fewer total worlds than previous entries.
He explained the early reveal of the Coco world at the D23 Showcase was a strategic preview rather than a full reveal, and that the segment shown represents only a portion of what the final world will include.
Nomura indicated players should expect a more complete introduction to that world in a future update.
A much larger script and intensive recording
According to Nomura, the Kingdom Hearts 4 script is nearly twice the length of Kingdom Hearts 3's script, making the recording schedule particularly demanding and forcing difficult editorial choices about what to include.
He confirmed that Japanese voice recording for the title is already complete.
Co-director Tai Yasue gave additional detail on the English-language sessions, saying that Square Enix has completed roughly 60 to 70 percent of English voice recordings.
Yasue noted the large volume of lines and the logistical challenges presented by time differences for staff based in Japan, but said that overseas recording is progressing well.
Development status and release timing
Both Nomura and Yasue characterized development as moving smoothly.
The team emphasized that, with development in its final stages, they are considering the cadence of future public updates and that there may be a short gap before the next major communication.
Square Enix continues to target a late 2027 release window for Kingdom Hearts 4 on Nintendo Switch 2.
Context and next steps
Kingdom Hearts 4 remains one of Square Enix's highest-profile projects, blending original characters with Disney worlds.
Fans can expect further official updates from Square Enix ahead of the planned late-2027 launch, and the studio has signaled it will present more detailed looks at worlds like Coco at a later date.
