Square Enix has confirmed that a proper version of Final Fantasy XV on Nintendo's next console is not out of the realm of possibility, according to the company's official translation of a recent shareholders meeting published on its website on July 3, 2026.

The publisher — which has steadily expanded Final Fantasy releases on Nintendo hardware — said technical constraints exist but did not rule out bringing the full XV experience to the Nintendo Switch 2.

At the meeting a shareholder asked whether the Final Fantasy VII remake appearing on the Nintendo Switch 2 implied other entries in the series could be ported, specifically naming Final Fantasy XV.

Square Enix responded that, while faithfully reproducing the exact experience of Final Fantasy XV on Nintendo hardware involves certain hardware limitations, a port is "not entirely impossible." The company added it would forward shareholder interest to the development team as an informative perspective for marketing and platform planning.

This statement arrives as Square Enix increasingly targets Nintendo's new hardware.

Earlier in June the company announced FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster would arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 in July, and it has scheduled FINAL FANTASY XIV Online for the Switch 2 in August, with additional Final Fantasy-branded releases such as Resonance in October and Revelation in 2027, according to the company’s rollout plans.

It is worth noting Final Fantasy XV has been accessible on Nintendo platforms previously in the form of Pocket Edition HD, which has been available on the Nintendo eShop since 2018.

That mobile-derived version was reviewed as a pared-down adaptation by Nintendo Life, which awarded it a 6/10.

The original, open-world Final Fantasy XV launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016 and received stronger scores on traditional console platforms.

Square Enix’s measured reply does not confirm a Switch 2 release date for Final Fantasy XV or any development timeline, but it does publicly acknowledge the technical feasibility and says fan and shareholder interest will be shared with internal teams.

For now, confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 releases from Square Enix remain limited to the titles the company has already announced.
