Electronic Arts has announced that Split Fiction, the latest co-op adventure game from Hazelight Studios, has sold over four million copies worldwide.
As anticipation builds for its upcoming release on Nintendo Switch 2, the publisher has confirmed a suite of innovative co-op features designed to enhance shared play experiences across the console landscape.
Developed by Hazelight Studios, renowned for their genre-defining titles It Takes Two and A Way Out, Split Fiction invites players into the intertwined stories of Mio and Zoe—two writers ensnared in a narrative reality where imagination and collaboration are vital for survival.
With one dedicated to science fiction and the other to fantasy, the duo must navigate and blend their contrasting worlds, relying on teamwork to reclaim their memories and escape the machine that has trapped them within their own stories.
In a clarified statement from Electronic Arts, the publisher noted the game's "overwhelming player support worldwide" and emphasized that "Split Fiction continues Hazelight’s commitment to redefining co-op gameplay with inventive mechanics and universal accessibility."
On Nintendo Switch 2, Split Fiction debuts forward-thinking local and online features.
The newly announced GameShare functionality enables two players on separate consoles to play locally with a single purchased copy, similar to classic download play—a valuable enhancement for households and friends with multiple devices.
Meanwhile, GameChat allows users to broadcast live video and voice chat directly from their consoles during co-op play, simplifying communication compared to traditional third-party solutions.
Split Fiction’s crossplay support continues across all platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Using the Friend’s Pass system, players can invite a friend to join online co-op—even if the invited player does not own the game.
All that’s required is an EA Account, ensuring seamless connections and gameplay regardless of each player's hardware of choice.
Key features for Split Fiction include:
- **True Co-op Adventure**: Designed exclusively for two players, every level encourages coordination and clever teamwork.
The split-screen structure fosters shared problem-solving and fun.
- **Unparalleled Variety**: Levels alternate between science fiction and fantasy, introducing new gameplay mechanics and wild scenarios—from escaping exploding suns to gravity-bending hoverboard segments, quirky boss battles, and stealthy platforming sections.
- **The Power of Friendship**: Player dynamics evolve as Mio and Zoe, initially at odds, grow to depend on each other in the face of unpredictable challenges.
The narrative revolves around the power of partnership, highlighting how cooperation turns adversity into triumph.
Split Fiction will be available both at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide beginning 5 June 2025.
With robust cross-platform options and unique local multiplayer features tailored to Nintendo’s forthcoming hardware, Hazelight Studios and Electronic Arts aim to usher in a new era of co-op storytelling.
