Description

Earlier this week, fans of Nintendo’s acclaimed multiplayer shooter were treated to two major announcements: the reveal of Splatoon Raiders, a new franchise spin-off exclusive to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and the announcement of a substantial version 10.0.0 update for Splatoon 3 on both the original Nintendo Switch and the highly anticipated Switch 2.

These developments reinforce Nintendo’s commitment to delivering fresh content and technical enhancements to its popular series, even as a new hardware generation approaches. Officially rolled out on June 11, 2025, the Splatoon 3 Version 10.0.0 update introduces a wealth of new features, gameplay improvements, and balance tweaks—reflecting the developer’s ongoing response to player feedback and evolving competitive needs.

For Nintendo Switch 2 owners, the update enhances the detail and smoothness of visuals across core hubs like Splatsville, Inkopolis, and Inkopolis Square, while animating both player and non-player characters with improved fluidity.

Notably, Salmonid enemy animations in the Salmon Run mode now remain smoother even amid intense action, and screen captures now boast higher resolution when using the Switch 2’s built-in tools. Nintendo has also addressed performance parity between the Switch and Switch 2, adjusting certain background elements during online battles on the original Nintendo Switch to ensure more consistent operation speeds across both systems.

In multiplayer updates applicable to all versions, the widely requested Urchin Underpass stage makes its long-awaited return.

Players can also look forward to wielding 30 brand-new weapons categorized under the Splatlands Collection’s Barazushi and Emberz lines, expanding tactical options and refreshing the meta. Responding to player input, Nintendo has modified the mechanics of several main and sub weapons.

Notably, ink consumption for the S-BLAST ‘92 and S-BLAST ‘91 has increased, with reduced follow-up mobility to offer greater counterplay opportunities.

Sub weapons like Toxic Mist now demand less ink but have a longer delay before recharge, balancing aggression and resource management.

Key special weapons have been rebuffed as well: Booyah Bomb and Triple Inkstrike now deal more damage to the formidable Crab Tank, but the Crab Tank’s cannon damage has been reduced, making high-risk, high-reward encounters fairer. Among the most significant system-level features is the new Series Weapon system for Anarchy Battle (Series) at Rank S or above.

This innovation measures a player’s skill with individual weapons, pairing them against similarly ranked competitors for each option.

Progress is tracked and displayed within SplatNet 3, with the "Best Nine" feature highlighting a player’s top-performing weapons.

Badge collectors will also find new milestones for raising weapon Freshness to 10★, and all new badges are available from Freshness 6★ upwards.

For X Battles, a call sign system is now visible in place of player nicknames, further refining competitive visibility and matchmaking. Nintendo’s patch notes also detail a suite of bug fixes for both player controls and in-game environments.

Animation glitches, occasional unintended inking from Squid Rolls on Switch 2, and rare Super Jump landing errors have all been addressed to bolster gameplay integrity across modes.

Adjustments in Side Order and Salmon Run, along with graphical improvements, speak to the developer’s intent for a seamless, polished experience going forward. As detailed in Nintendo’s official statement, balance will remain a focus for the game’s next update—particularly as players settle into the new weapons and systems.

With the introduction of Splatoon Raiders on the horizon and continual updates to Splatoon 3, fans of the series on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 can expect a vibrant competitive future.
