Nintendo has announced that Splatoon 3 will host its Summer Nights 2026 Splatfest on the weekend of August 21.
Splatoon 3, developed and published by Nintendo EPD for the Nintendo Switch, launched on September 9, 2022, and continues to run seasonal in-game events and Splatfests that pit player-chosen teams against one another in timed competitions.
Event details and player choices
For the 2026 Summer Nights Splatfest, Nintendo has asked players to pick which daytime activity they'd reserve: visiting a palace, going to a theme park, or spending the day at the beach.
In plain terms, Nintendo is asking players to choose one of three options — palace, theme park, or beach — to represent their team for the Splatfest.
Last year's Summer Nights event took a different angle.
Last year, the festival centered on modes of travel, with players asked whether they preferred to travel by land, sea, or air.
Those results were published following the event and can be referenced for comparison on archive pages and news coverage from 2025.
What is a Splatfest?
Splatfests are recurring, timed events in the Splatoon series in which players select a team based on a posed question and compete in online Turf War and ranked matches to earn points for their side.
Since Splatoon 3's release in 2022, Nintendo has continued to use Splatfests and seasonal campaigns to engage its player base on the Nintendo Switch and promote new cosmetic items and stages via in-game shops and the Nintendo eShop.
