SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed Confirmed for Nintendo Switch Release by tinyBuild and Fair Play Labs
In a significant announcement for fans of competitive platforming, indie publisher tinyBuild and development studio Fair Play Labs have confirmed that SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed is officially in development for the Nintendo Switch.
Building on the legacy of the original SpeedRunners—a title that has captivated more than 10 million players globally—this sequel is poised to deliver even more intense multiplayer action when it arrives on the Nintendo eShop in 2026.
For those unfamiliar, the original SpeedRunners became a standout hit thanks to its blend of fast-paced racing mechanics and competitive multiplayer chaos.
Originally launched in 2016, the game built a dedicated community and was especially acclaimed for energizing local and online party scenes across PC and console platforms.
Now, with SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, tinyBuild and Fair Play Labs promise to evolve the franchise with new features and contemporary gameplay innovations tailored for the Nintendo Switch.
The sequel brings back the electrifying race-to-survive format, letting players select from a lineup of eccentric superheroes—both returning favorites and fresh faces.
Up to eight players can compete per lobby, whether locally or online, enhancing the game’s chaotic and high-speed energy.
One of the central mechanics involves racing ahead while an ever-tightening ring of fire eliminates stragglers, keeping tension high as competitors vie to grab and hold first place.
In a press statement, tinyBuild highlighted SpeedRunners 2's wide range of competitive tools, including inventive pick-ups such as missiles, traps, and the iconic golden grappling hook that lets players pull rivals forward or knock them out of the race.
Levels are designed with a retrofuturistic flair inspired by the superhero utopia aesthetics of the 1960s, and tracks incorporate a mix of booster pads, wall jumps, grabbable ceilings, and environmental levers for dynamic, strategic movement.
"Players will need to master every map, memorizing shortcuts, pick-up spots, and obstacles to outsmart the competition," the publisher noted, underlining that SpeedRunners 2 retains the original’s intuitive controls while introducing greater depth and a higher skill ceiling.
This makes it suitable both for newcomers seeking quick fun and veteran runners looking to hone their abilities, take part in tournaments, or climb online leaderboards.
With its strong competitive spirit and emphasis on community-driven gameplay—such as customizable lobbies, tournaments, and challenges—SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed is positioned to become a centerpiece in the Nintendo Switch’s multiplayer library when it launches digitally worldwide in 2026 on the Nintendo eShop.
Stay tuned for further updates from tinyBuild and Fair Play Labs as development progresses on this eagerly anticipated sequel.
