SEGA has officially unveiled an exciting partnership with Nickelodeon for the upcoming "Sonic Racing CrossWorlds," introducing legendary characters from the world of children’s entertainment into the Sonic universe.

The announcement was made during the prominent 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, sparking anticipation among fans of both brands and offering a major boost to the game’s highly anticipated launch for Nintendo Switch on September 25, 2025, via retail and Nintendo eShop. Breaking new ground, "Sonic Racing CrossWorlds" will allow players to race as iconic Nickelodeon characters, most notably SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star, in addition to Sonic and his friends.

As part of this collaboration, the game will feature a specially themed SpongeBob SquarePants vehicle and racing track, blending the imaginative worlds of SEGA and Nickelodeon.

The latest gameplay trailer teases additional Nickelodeon properties joining the fray, with nods to classics including "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" and "Avatar Legends." Returning core gameplay features ensure fans will feel at home with diverse courses encompassing land, air, and sea, while new mechanics like the Travel Rings add inventive twists to each race.

Travel Rings are a fresh gameplay innovation, enabling racers to instantaneously jump into new CrossWorlds mid-race, creating unpredictable and dynamic racing scenarios.

According to SEGA, these features "transform each race and offer players new strategic opportunities by warping them to unexplored dimensions." "Sonic Racing CrossWorlds" is poised to set a new benchmark with the largest roster in the history of Sonic racing titles.

Players will choose from 23 diverse characters and compete across 24 primary tracks, each enhanced by the Travel Rings mechanic, which delivers transport to 15 unique CrossWorlds per race.

Additionally, racers can enhance their vehicles with over 70 Gadgets and make use of an in-depth customization system, empowering gamers to personalize their experience by mixing and matching parts, powers, and abilities to suit any driving style. The game also marks the return of Extreme Gear from "Sonic Riders," bringing long-lost hoverboard action back to center stage.

Post-launch, SEGA will roll out free updates introducing beloved characters from SEGA franchises such as Joker from "Persona 5 Royal" and Kasuga Ichiban from "Like A Dragon," plus guest appearances from cross-media stars including Hatsune Miku.

The Digital Deluxe Edition promises even more with special content from the Netflix series "Sonic Prime" and a Season Pass that expands the game world with new vehicles, characters, and tracks from globally recognized franchises, leading with content from "Minecraft." With the Nintendo Switch release set for September 25, 2025, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version to follow, "Sonic Racing CrossWorlds" is positioned to be a must-play addition to any racing game enthusiast’s library.

SEGA's robust collaboration with Nickelodeon and continuous content updates highlight its commitment to delivering fresh, expansive entertainment experiences for dedicated Switch players and Sonic fans worldwide.
