A Closer Look at Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Game Modes Grand Prix is a central feature, offering both solo and local split-screen multiplayer options.

Players can compete for first place in any of the seven distinctive cups, each comprising four races.

Points are awarded based on placement in each race, with the overall cup winner determined by the highest score at the end.

This mode is designed to provide classic tournament racing fun, whether facing friends or AI opponents. World Match mode brings competitive online action to the forefront.

Up to 12 players from across the globe can race against each other, vying to accumulate Rank Points and elevate their World Rank.

This mode further extends Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ emphasis on skill-based, online competition on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms. For those who enjoy custom settings and social play, Friend Match allows up to 12 players to join custom lobbies online.

These private matches offer control over various options, including speed settings, team sizes, course selection, AI difficulty, available items, and rule sets, giving players complete flexibility for tailored racing experiences. Race Park mode introduces a party-style environment both online and offline, with six unique race formats that shake up the gameplay.

From special challenges to unconventional rule sets, this mode aims to keep the racing experience fresh and varied for returning players. Time Trial mode is available for racers seeking to claim the top spot on course-specific leaderboards by delivering their best possible lap times.

Completing the suite of modes is Custom Match, which offers up to four players split-screen co-op offline, with full control over race parameters for a personalized local multiplayer session. Rival System and Multiplayer Features Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces the innovative Rival System, assigning players a dynamic rival racer for all four races in a Grand Prix.

This rival offers playful banter and creates an ongoing in-game challenge, fostering a heightened sense of competition and camaraderie during race events. The title supports four-player local co-op, allowing friends and family to share a single Nintendo Switch device or Switch 2 and compete together in split-screen mode.

SEGA has also confirmed support for cross-platform matchmaking, enabling players to race online against friends across different hardware for a seamless and unified multiplayer experience. Release and Platform Availability Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is scheduled for launch on September 25, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, with a subsequent release planned for the upcoming Switch 2.
