Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Captain Majima Release Date Confirmed for April 29, 2026

SEGA has set a firm release date for the next free character coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

The company announced that Captain Majima — featuring Goro Majima as a playable racer — will arrive on April 29, 2026 at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET, bringing a themed vehicle and additional cosmetic items to the title.

In its announcement, SEGA stated plainly that Captain Majima will be added as a playable character and accompanied by the Goromaru vehicle.

The update will also introduce special emotes and sound effects tied to the character to expand player customization options.

Players should note that a timed in-game event tied to the release follows immediately after the character drop.

Beginning April 30 at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will run an event during which players can earn festival points to redeem for decals, gadgets and other rewards.

The event window concludes on May 3 at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET.

SEGA has steadily added guest and crossover content to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in recent weeks.

Earlier this month the studio added Red from Angry Birds as a playable entry.

Separately, Arle is also scheduled to join the roster in a future update, according to prior announcements from the publisher.

Availability and platforms

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is currently playable on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Players can access the game and download updates through the eShop on supported hardware.

Why this matters

Free character updates and short festival events are central to sustaining player engagement in live-service racer titles.

By timing the Captain Majima release with a short festival that awards decals and gadgets, SEGA is following a common live-service cadence that encourages return play and microtransaction-free progression during the event period.

What to expect

When the update goes live on April 29, players can download Captain Majima’s content and immediately test the Goromaru vehicle and new emotes.

The festival that begins the next day will provide a limited-duration opportunity to collect festival points and claim event-only items.

For players on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, keep an eye on the eShop and in-game notices for the update notification and patch size information when the April 29 release goes live.
