Sir Noggin: Sinclair Strange and Scarlet Moon Unveil Retro Platformer Tribute to Sega Master System
UK-based indie developer Sinclair Strange, renowned for creative pixel art and challenging platformers, has announced a new retro-inspired game titled Sir Noggin, set to launch soon on Steam.
Partnering with video game music publisher Scarlet Moon, this collaboration seeks to channel the energy and nostalgia of the Sega Master System era, celebrating what developers refer to as 'the glorious 8-Bit days.'
Sir Noggin transports players into a vibrant pixelated world, starring an endearing knight with a notably large head and an even larger sword.
Engaging players in classic platforming action, Sir Noggin features an expansive adventure across seven distinctly themed zones and twenty meticulously crafted stages.
The protagonist’s quest is to rid the land of an evil wizard, humorously named Derek, confronting a formidable array of minions and a parade of oversized bosses that await at the end of select stages.
Gameplay is designed to evoke classic platformers of the late 1980s, but with a fresh twist.
Players will utilize Sir Noggin’s oversized sword along with five unique power-ups scattered throughout the journey.
The game challenges players to master these tools in order to conquer intricate levels and defeat the wizard’s menacing entourage.
A core highlight of Sir Noggin’s development is its dedication to an authentic soundtrack, appropriate given Scarlet Moon’s expertise as a video game music publisher.
The team has brought on esteemed chiptune artist and video game remixer Coda to compose the game’s music.
Coda, known for work on acclaimed indie games like Videoball, Paint it Back, Llama in Your Face, Alter Ego: Dreamwalker, and Grave Danger, brings a distinct sense of nostalgia and polish to Sir Noggin’s audio design.
Commenting on the collaboration, representatives from Scarlet Moon emphasized their commitment to high-quality game soundtracks, noting that Sir Noggin’s music, crafted by Coda, will play a central role in immersing players in the game’s retro atmosphere.
Sinclair Strange echoed this sentiment, highlighting the careful balance the game strikes between honoring its influences and introducing new twists for modern players.
Currently, Sir Noggin is listed as 'coming soon' on Steam, and fans of classic platformers can add the title to their wishlists in anticipation of its release.
While a specific launch date has yet to be announced, this project stands as a vibrant homage to the Sega Master System’s legacy and is shaping up to be a must-play for enthusiasts of retro gaming and chiptune music alike.
Stay tuned for further updates as Sinclair Strange and Scarlet Moon prepare to bring Sir Noggin to PC gamers worldwide.
