Shovel Knight Joins Crypt of the NecroDancer: New DLC Out Now on Nintendo Switch eShop

Brace Yourself Games has released a crossover DLC for Crypt of the NecroDancer to mark the game's 11-year anniversary in 2026.

Originally released in 2015, Crypt of the NecroDancer established itself as a rhythm-driven roguelike and has since seen multiple ports and spin-offs across platforms including the Nintendo Switch.

The newly available add-on brings Yacht Club Games' iconic protagonist Shovel Knight into Brace Yourself's musical dungeon-crawler.

The DLC is available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop for £1.69 / $1.99.

In clear, journalistic terms: the Shovel Knight playable pack is already live on the Switch store and can be purchased immediately at the listed price.

In his Crypt incarnation, Shovel Knight uses his signature Shovel Drop as a rhythm-based movement and attack option.

Rewritten for clarity: players control Shovel Knight as he times Shovel Drop maneuvers to bounce between enemies and rebound off walls, maintaining the beat to chain attacks and navigate rooms.

The pack includes a set of original Shovel Knight tracks by composer Jake Kaufman, integrating familiar motifs from Yacht Club Games' soundtrack into Crypt of the NecroDancer's tempo-driven combat.

Key gameplay elements documented in the release include the ability to move in eight directions, leveraging stronger shovels to increase attack power rather than equipping traditional weapons, and using Shovel Drop combos to create shortcuts to deeper floors.

Players can also dig up Treasure Piles to obtain additional loot.

This crossover further underscores Brace Yourself Games' ongoing support for Crypt of the NecroDancer since its 2015 launch and highlights collaborations between independent developers.

Jake Kaufman, who composed music for Shovel Knight, is credited for the new music included with the pack, providing authentic audio that aligns with both franchises' rhythmic identities.

For Switch owners interested in adding Shovel Knight to their Crypt runs, the DLC is purchasable now via the Nintendo Switch eShop.

As always, check the eShop listing for platform-specific details and download instructions.
