Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Sales Surpass 2 Million Worldwide—Atlus Achieves Major RPG Milestone

Atlus has announced that combined global sales of Shin Megami Tensei V and its expanded release, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, have exceeded 2 million copies as of July 28, 2024.

This significant sales milestone underscores the enduring appeal of the celebrated RPG series and marks an important achievement for both Atlus and the broader Shin Megami Tensei franchise. Originally launched exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in November 2021, Shin Megami Tensei V quickly captured the attention of RPG fans with its challenging strategic gameplay, mature themes, and atmospheric storytelling.

The original release enjoyed a strong commercial reception, with Atlus reporting in April 2022 that sales had already surpassed 1.6 million units worldwide.

This success established Shin Megami Tensei V as one of the best-selling entries in the series, reinforcing Atlus' position as a leading developer of Japanese role-playing games. The recent release of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance on June 14, 2024, marked a major evolution for the title.

Unlike its predecessor, which was exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, Vengeance launched simultaneously across multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, alongside its original Switch offering.

This expanded availability enabled a broader audience to experience the game’s unique blend of demon negotiation, turn-based combat, and branching narrative paths. Atlus confirmed on social media that Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance alone has sold over 1 million copies worldwide as of July 2024.

Remarkably, in its first three days on the market, Vengeance recorded 500,000 sales, highlighting strong initial demand from both returning fans and newcomers.

The company did not release a platform-specific sales breakdown in keeping with its usual practice, but the overall figures reflect impressive momentum across all platforms. In a rewritten statement, Atlus shared that the franchise has now reached a new peak: "Combined worldwide sales for both the original Shin Megami Tensei V and its Vengeance edition have now surpassed 2 million copies.

Vengeance itself accounts for more than one million of these sales, thanks to strong support from players on every platform." Shin Megami Tensei V’s ongoing commercial success demonstrates the robust global appetite for Atlus' hallmark RPGs.

The game’s presence on the Nintendo Switch, bolstered by its availability across additional hardware platforms through the Vengeance edition, has ensured that the series continues to thrive in today’s highly competitive gaming landscape.
