Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution Confirmed for Nintendo Switch, Launching Summer 2025

WayForward has officially announced that its long-awaited sequel, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, is set to launch on Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop in Summer 2025.

Originally conceived for the Game Boy Advance two decades ago but never released, the project now reunites its original development team to bring the classic platforming-adventure to Nintendo’s popular hybrid console. The Shantae franchise, celebrated for its vibrant visuals and inventive gameplay, returns in Risky Revolution as players once again take on the role of Shantae, Sequin Land’s half-genie hero.

The antagonist, Risky Boots, is back with a bold new plan: by rotating Sequin Land’s continent, she aims to bring any town directly to the coastline, making them targets for her piratical raids.

According to WayForward, this new gameplay mechanic introduces multilayered levels where players can shift and rotate environmental layers to solve puzzles and chart new routes, marking a notable evolution in the series’ platforming design. As described by WayForward, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution lets players whip through scrambled landscapes, misplaced towns, crypts teeming with monsters, and intricate labyrinths using Shantae’s signature hair attacks, magical items, and transformative belly-dances.

Classic transformations—including monkey, elephant, and crab forms—enhance traversal and combat, while familiar friends such as Rottytops, Sky, and Bolo make their return. A standout feature for this long-anticipated chapter is the newly-introduced four-player Battle Mode—a first for any Shantae title.

This local multiplayer mode brings competitive action to the franchise, allowing players to challenge each other in unique Shantae-themed arenas.
