Sephiroth Voice Actor Change Confirmed for Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Square Enix has confirmed a recasting for the English voice of Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the studio’s latest entry in the broader Final Fantasy VII project.

The announcement follows comments from game director Naoki Hamaguchi during an interview with streamer Maximilian Dood.

Hamaguchi said the actor who previously voiced Sephiroth was unable to participate in the new project and that the role has been recast.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is part of Square Enix’s expanded FFVII slate that includes Intergrade (the PS5-enhanced version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, released June 10, 2021), Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion (released December 13, 2022 across multiple platforms) and the mainline sequel Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (released April 29, 2024 for PlayStation 5).

Tyler Hoechlin previously voiced Sephiroth in Intergrade, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Crisis Core Reunion, but Hamaguchi confirmed he was not available for Revelation.

In journalistic terms, Hamaguchi explained that the previous English performer for Sephiroth could not take part in the new project, necessitating a replacement for the character’s voice work.

Square Enix has since been reported to have cast a new actor for the role.

Multiple reports indicate that Travis Willingham will voice Sephiroth in Revelation.

Willingham—an established videogame and animation voice actor—appeared to reference the trailer’s showcase at the Summer Game Fest, describing the event’s closing sequence as a strong highlight on social media.

While Square Enix’s director provided the confirmation about the former actor’s availability, the studio’s official casting announcement and any credited details will provide final confirmation.

What this means for players and the wider FFVII community:

- The Final Fantasy VII remake project has repeatedly updated its cast as the series expands across titles and media.

- Players who follow continuity between Intergrade, Rebirth and ancillary projects may notice a change in Sephiroth’s English presentation in Revelation.

- Official credits from Square Enix and materials published with the game will be the definitive source for voice cast confirmation.

Square Enix’s FFVII project remains one of the studio’s most high-profile endeavours, and changes to marquee characters attract attention across the industry.

Fans should look to Square Enix’s official channels and the Revelation credits for the finalized voice cast information.
