Kingdom Loop Announced for Nintendo Switch 2: Tactical Roguelike Deckbuilder from Ultimate Games and RootGame

Ultimate Games and developer RootGame have officially announced that Kingdom Loop, a strategic roguelike with deckbuilding mechanics, is in development for Nintendo Switch 2.

The collaboration promises to deliver a fresh take on tactical strategy games, blending elements reminiscent of Loop Hero with in-depth, turn-based combat and resource management. Set within a medieval fantasy world under siege, Kingdom Loop plunges players into an ongoing conflict between humans and the undead.

As war wages over the mythical Grail, gamers can choose from one of eight distinct heroes, each equipped with unique abilities designed to shape distinct paths to victory.

The loop-driven gameplay centers around the Grail Temple, a circular landscape comprised of more than 200 tile types, each with unique effects which players can strategically place using cards. During each "loop"—a complete circuit of the ring-shaped road—enemies become progressively stronger, compelling players to adapt their strategies with every turn and loss, while also gaining insights for future attempts.

Gameplay expands into kingdom building, resource gathering, and army development, as players must claim desolate lands, construct fortresses, recruit troops, and destroy opposing strongholds.

A robust deckbuilding system underpins the game: players earn, purchase, and customize their decks to place tiles, assuring the necessary tactical flexibility to overcome growing threats. Kingdom Loop’s narrative draws on a dramatic prophecy: when the Grail is found, death will end and the world will change.

Contrary to expectations, the resurrection of the dead triggers a fierce struggle, with humanity seeking to restore order and the undead striving to secure the Grail for themselves.

Each hero from the game's two factions brings an exclusive playstyle, unlocking new powers and offering alternative routes to success. Battle mechanics are deeply rooted in fast-paced, turn-based strategy.

With over 20 unit types per faction, each boasting their own abilities, players are tasked with selecting optimal unit compositions and equipment.

Equipment and artifacts further strengthen armies and grant special bonuses, augmenting both the player’s side and their enemy.

Every loop, players can add a random new card to their deck, increasing strategic possibilities and replayability. Kingdom Loop’s key features include: - Strategic, deck-driven world manipulation via over 200 unique tiles - Eight customizable heroes, each with signature abilities - Resource management and kingdom expansion - Fast-paced, turn-based combat with diverse unit types - Robust deckbuilding and equipment systems - Adaptive difficulty as enemies strengthen through each loop Ultimate Games has confirmed that Kingdom Loop will launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, with a global release planned.

However, a specific release date or launch window has yet to be announced.

The official trailer is now available, offering a glimpse into the innovative mechanics and atmospheric setting that await on Nintendo's upcoming platform.
