Nintendo Switch 2 May Have Unused Model Code 'OSM' According to Official Website Discovery

Nintendo Switch 2 May Have Unused Model Code 'OSM' According to Official Website Discovery As the Nintendo Switch 2 enters its debut year, fans and industry analysts alike have begun to speculate about Nintendo's strategy for future hardware revisions.

With the original Nintendo Switch family expanding into iterations such as the Switch Lite and Switch OLED, attention naturally turns to whether Nintendo will follow a similar path with its next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2. A recent, verifiable discovery has drawn considerable attention within the gaming community.

Bluesky user dootsky reported finding an unused model code—"OSM"—on the official Nintendo Account management website.

This discovery occurred during an exploration of model codes associated with Nintendo Switch hardware.

Specifically, the current Switch 2 hardware uses the code "BEE" within Nintendo's system, while the previous models have their own distinct codes.

Intriguingly, when the website is prompted with the "OSM" code, it displays an image corresponding to the Switch 2 console. Dootsky recounted this on social media, explaining: "On Nintendo's Account Portal, there's an unused model code under the name 'OSM.' The portal has images for each Switch model, and requesting 'OSM' returns an image of a Switch 2." This finding has been corroborated by other members of the Nintendo community who have tested the model code functionality on the Account Portal.

While the code's actual significance is currently unknown, its existence suggests that Nintendo has allocated a separate identifier that remains unused in the public-facing system. At this time, Nintendo has not made any official announcements regarding additional hardware variants or upgrades for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The company traditionally refrains from commenting on unreleased products or internal codenames.

It's important to note that while the Switch Lite and Switch OLED models for the previous generation were released as hardware revisions designed to capture different market segments, there is no confirmation from Nintendo regarding future plans for the Switch 2 line. The Nintendo Switch 2 launched to global markets less than a year ago and has continued the company's strong record of sales and software support, with exclusive releases already populating the Nintendo eShop and physical retailers.

Developers and industry experts will no doubt continue to monitor Nintendo's hardware strategy, especially as new information surfaces from official sites or Nintendo Direct presentations. For now, the discovery of the unused "OSM" model code remains a point of interest for both fans and analysts.

The Nintendo community is advised to await further announcements directly from Nintendo for any definitive news on new Switch 2 models or hardware developments.
