Early access for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 has begun for select creators and outlets, ahead of a public open beta scheduled for 28 August 2026.

Activision confirmed that Digital Legends developed the native Switch 2 build, and invited media to evaluate performance, resolution and overall stability on Nintendo's upcoming hardware.

First impressions: performance over pixels

Multiple outlets and creators published hands-on impressions and gameplay footage from the pre-release Switch 2 build.

BoTalksGames posted roughly 14 minutes of docked gameplay showing the build in action.

Across reports, reviewers consistently noted that the Switch 2 version prioritizes frame rate, with many sources saying the build targets—and in many cases achieves—60 frames per second despite compromises in resolution and draw distance.

Switch Force described the build as a strong technical accomplishment on Switch 2 while noting visual trade-offs.

The outlet summarized that the game runs very well on the system, but that graphical quality can be noticeably degraded and can affect the visual experience.

Spawn Wave, a long-time Call of Duty series player on other platforms, said the initial visuals were jarring and emphasized that this is a beta and an older pre-release build that may not represent the final product.

They added that it is significant to see Call of Duty return to Nintendo with performance that appears at least on par with other platforms in this early form.

Nintendo World Report reported tablet-mode footage and testing of the Joy-Con 2 mouse mode, saying the build runs at a low docked resolution but largely maintains 60fps.

The outlet highlighted reasonable load times and stable multiplayer performance, calling resolution the primary drawback while praising the net code and overall playability.

Universo Nintendo editor-in-chief Felipe Lima (Necro) observed on social media that the mouse mode functions well on Switch 2 and that, while the title does not remain at 60fps constantly, it does so for most of the time.

He also noted options that allow players to prioritize textures or bandwidth on demand and concluded that the beta's technical state does not fundamentally compromise the experience.
