Description

Roguecraft, the acclaimed Amiga dungeon crawler developed by Badger Punch Studios, is expanding its reach far beyond the retro community.

In a significant announcement on BlueSky, Badger Punch Studios confirmed that Roguecraft—originally an Amiga-exclusive homebrew title—will not only be launching on Steam and Nintendo Switch, but is also being adapted for a variety of classic and modern platforms. Originally released for the Commodore Amiga in 2024, Roguecraft quickly garnered attention from retro gaming circles and was recognized with the 'Retro World Award' at the Debug Magazine Awards in February 2025.

This robust dungeon crawler blends nostalgic visuals with engaging gameplay, reviving the spirit of classic exploration and strategy for new and seasoned players alike. In response to inquiries regarding the platforms under consideration, Badger Punch Studios shared that Roguecraft is currently planned to appear in both digital and physical formats on the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), Spectrum Next, and Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

"We're planning to release Roguecraft across the Sega Genesis, Spectrum Next, and NES, in addition to Steam and Nintendo Switch," the studio confirmed in a statement provided to press.

This multi-platform approach aims to unite modern and classic gamers by bridging decades of hardware innovation. Roguecraft already has a presence on modern gaming platforms.

The upcoming Steam release of Roguecraft is now available for wishlisting, and a Nintendo Switch version is actively in development, expanding its accessibility to millions of players.

Notably, the enhanced edition ‘Roguecraft DX’ is slated to arrive on Evercade handhelds and consoles later this August.

This DX release will feature new levels, monsters, and an updated soundtrack, building on the solid foundation of the original Amiga version.

When asked whether the Steam edition would include these upgrades, Badger Punch Studios remarked, “We haven’t finalized all the features yet, but players can expect notable differences in the Steam version.” The studio also indicated that an advanced version of Roguecraft DX could potentially launch on Amiga in the future, with the caveat that it may require more powerful hardware than the earlier release.

Specific details are still under review. While an exact release date for Roguecraft on Nintendo Switch and Steam remains unannounced, anticipation is building as the game makes the leap from retro platforms to a broad spectrum of devices.

Badger Punch Studios continues to celebrate its retro roots while embracing new technology and audiences, promising more updates as digital and physical releases of Roguecraft draw closer. For gamers eager to experience a modern take on dungeon crawling classics, Roguecraft’s upcoming arrivals on Nintendo Switch, Steam, and classic hardware represent a significant milestone in cross-generational gaming.
